The oil filter, also known as the oil strainer, removes impurities such as dust, metal particles, carbon deposits, and soot particles from the oil to protect the engine.

Oil filters are divided into full-flow and bypass types. Full-flow filters are connected in series between the oil pump and the main oil gallery, filtering all the lubricating oil that enters the main oil gallery. Bypass filters are connected in parallel with the main oil gallery, filtering only part of the lubricating oil pumped by the oil pump.
